Hints of optimism as Commodity Classic gets underway

Two of the early arrivals at this week’s Commodity Classic in San Antonio are expressing optimism about the months ahead.

‘It’s an exciting year ahead, I guess,” says Eugene Goering of Columbus, Nebraska, who serves on the Nebraska Soybean Board. “We heard during the middle of our meeting (Tuesday) that soybeans were up the limit for a while and that’s always good to hear. We’re going into the season with a good moisture situation and I’m optimistic for the coming year.”

Paul Rasmussen of Genoa, Illinois, who is involved with state and national soybean associations, says the resilience of the soybean market has him feeling more positive.

“They have stayed stronger than people had  predicted. We’ve had good yields as well,” Rasmussen says. “Hopefully we can have some opportunities coming up for either forward pricing or the market will hold fairly strong.”

Rasmussen says they’re fairly dry in north-central Illinois, but he’s not overly concerned.  He says the moisture situation can change quickly going into spring.
