High input costs on the mind of pork producers at World Pork Expo
Rising input costs are on the mind of pork producers attending the World Pork Expo in Des Moines.
Dr. Jamie Lehman with Merck Animal Health says attendees are concerned about feed prices and widespread disease pressure.
“Input costs are up and the disease load is fairly high, so there’s a lot of pressure on producers in that regard.”
National Pork Producers Council CEO Bryan Humphreys tells Brownfield everyone’s feeling the pinch.
“I’d like to take the opportunity to remind the American consumer that yes, we’re seeing higher food prices, but so are American pork producers. And it’s that way across the board, everything is becoming more expensive. And the input costs that go into the pork industry are no different.”
Humphreys says the same applies for corn and soybean farmers who are facing high input costs as well.
