Harvest in full swing for several Arkansas crops

Corn and rice harvest continues in Arkansas, while soybean harvest is picking up speed.  According to the latest crop report from the USDA, 63 percent of the state’s corn crop is harvested, that’s on pace with last year and behind the 5-year average.  Forty-four percent of the rice crop has been harvested, with 86 percent mature.  Sixty-six percent of sorghum has been harvested and 94 percent of the crop is mature.  Soybean harvest has made some progress since last week, with 8 percent of the crop harvested and 30 percent dropping leaves.  Six percent of peanuts have been dug, ahead of both last year and the 5-year average.

Soil moisture is starting to decline as just 24 percent of the topsoil moisture and 31 percent of subsoil moisture are called adequate to surplus.
