H2Ohio extends enrollment for some farmers

The Ohio Department of Agriculture is extending the deadline for farmers in the Maumee River Watershed to sign up for the H2Ohio program.

Officials say they are expanding the enrollment period until February 2nd because of considerable interest in the program.

Farmers can re-enroll or sign up new acres into H2Ohio and earn incentives for best management practices that improve water quality.

The extension is for growers in Allen, Auglaize, Defiance, Fulton, Henry, Hardin, Hancock, Lucas, Mercer, Putnam, Paulding, Van Wert, Williams, and Wood counties.

Farmers in 24 counties throughout the Western Lake Erie Basin have enrolled 1.2 million acres in best management practices, which includes planting overwintering cover crops, since the program began in 2019.
