Grassroots efforts in the biodiesel industry

The executive director of the Iowa Biodiesel Board says the key to growing the biodiesel industry is implementing programs at the state level.

Grant Kimberley says in Iowa, for example, they have been able to put together a package of incentive programs.

“From retail incentives to a producer incentive infrastructure cost-share program to help build out the infrastructure so it’s more readily available,” he says. “They have helped to grow biodiesel production and usage.”

He tells Brownfield it’s all about building coalitions to benefit the entire value chain.

“From the petroleum marketers to the end users to the farmers and then biodiesel producers,” he says.

Kimberley says they will continue to work together and talk with lawmakers about how the industry benefits the overall economy.

Kimberley is also the director of market development for the Iowa Soybean Association. Iowa is the number one biodiesel-producing state in the country, producing nearly 400 million gallons a year.
