Grassley sees short and long-term ag impacts of Israel-Hamas war

Long-time U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley sees the war between Israel and Hamas impacting U.S. agriculture.

“We’ve just seen the price of oil shoot up nationwide, so that’s going to raise the price of diesel. That’s the first impact.”

The Iowa Republican tells Brownfield there might not be any other immediate impacts, but if the conflict expands.

“And it could easily do that with Hezbollah from the north, Lebanon into Israel. How much of that is going to go on in the future? But that would make it more tenuous and probably affect agriculture to a great extent, even beyond energy.”

The fighting erupted a week ago and Israel has ordered more than one million people to evacuate northern Gaza.
