GOP candidates back biofuels at IRFA Summit

Three of the remaining Republican presidential candidates recently made a stop in Iowa to discuss the future of biofuels.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis says E15 needs to be made permanently available year-round. “Why do you have to stop doing that once you hit a perspective on the calendar? That’s something that I’m supportive of. I think it will be helpful for folks here in the Midwest. It also gives people more choices in terms of the fuel that they use.”

Former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley says biofuels can help unlock the nation’s energy independence. “We will support the Renewable Fuel Standard. We will make sure that we get our energy system in such a way that not only does it help our economy, but no more going hat in hand to Saudi Arabia. No more getting dirty oil from Iran and Venezuela.”

Former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson says electric vehicle mandates need to be stopped. “I don’t want to be made to say you’ve got to have an EV as your source of transportation as a truck. Let’s let the consumers have a greater choice in their selection and let them drive industry production in this country.”

The candidates spoke during the 2024 Iowa Renewable Fuels Summit.
