Glyphosate banned at University of California campuses

The use of glyphosate-based herbicides will be suspended at all University of California campuses starting June 1st.

President Janet Napolitano says the ban is in place because of concerns about possible human health and ecological hazards.

There are exemptions to the ban including agricultural operations and research that requires glyphosate-based herbicides.

Napolitano says the university is considering long-term approaches to the use of glyphosate on UC campuses.

California juries have ruled glyphosate-based RoundUp causes cancer in several cases in recent months, which Bayer is appealing.
