Get weeds early

An agronomist sees advantages to targeting weeds early.

Austin Carlson covers southeast Minnesota for AsGrow/Dekalb.

“Overlapping those residuals and making sure you don’t have a break in residuals between your pre and post-emergence where you’re giving those weeds a chance to grow through those residuals. And this way we can overlap them, get better control of those weeds, which will lead to better performance in the yields.”

He tells Brownfield using dicamba as a burndown or pre-emergent herbicide can be very effective.

“When we get a chance to use them when we go early with those programs, growers see clean fields and a nice advantage on the yield.”

In his territory, Carlson says dicamba has done a good job neutralizing herbicide-resistant waterhemp and giant ragweed.
