From corn and soybeans to apples, Tennessee crops ahead of the average

Corn and soybean planting in Tennessee is well ahead of the 5-year average.  Twenty-nine percent of the corn crop has been planted, compared to 5% last week and the 5-year average of 16%.  Soybeans are 7% planted, above last year and the 5-year average of 1%.  Cotton is 1% planted. 

Apples are also ahead of the average with 70% in full bloom compared to last year at 52% and the 5-year average of 58%. 

Winter wheat is rated 60% good to excellent with 75% of the crop jointing and 3% headed.  Pastures are rated 60% good to excellent and strawberries are rated 73% good to excellent.
