Finding the right coverage for your farm

The crop insurance deadline is inching closer.  Jim Rink, director of farm/crop programs for Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance says there are new trend adjustment options available to producers this year.  If farmers haven’t made their final crop insurance decisions, that is yet another option for them to consider.

Looking back at 2011; Rink says crop insurance will make record payments to farmers.  Primarily, he says, because of the extreme weather patterns of last year seen across the country.  The previous record for crop insurance payouts came in 2008 where they totaled $8.67 million.

Because of the uncertainty of Mother Nature, Rink says it is vital for producers to have crop insurance. In Indiana, 73 percent of the acres are covered by crop insurance.
