FFA has given Illinois youth useful skills

Joel Limestall, secretary of the Illinois state FFAThe Illinois State FFA Convention is giving students the tools they need to succeed in agriculture. That’s according to the outgoing Secretary of the Illinois FFA, Joel Limestall, who told Brownfield Ag News that his favorite experience as an officer was getting to know so many different people.

“That was my favorite part and the thing that I think I learned the most from was learning about how different people from all across Illinois interact with each other and all the different things that they do in agriculture and out of agriculture,” said Limestall Wednesday.

Limestall maintains that the FFA is for more than just farm kids.

“If you think it’s just a farming organization, we are much more than that,” said Limestall, when asked what he would say to encourage potential FFA members. “We are actually a leadership organization, and honestly, I’ve met more friends through FFA and more acquaintances, and more business people, and more really of everything than I would have ever gained from being in any other organization.”

After pursuing an agribusiness degree, Limestall plans to use the skills learned through the FFA and return to the family farm in Waterloo, Il.
