Feenstra discusses fertilizer price concerns

A US Representative from Iowa says he’s concerned about input costs for farmers heading into next growing season.

Republican Randy Feenstra tells Brownfield, “With what’s happening in Europe with fertilizer and natural gas prices, those natural gas prices are incredibly high, there’s a lot of concern of where the fertilizer costs are going to go.”

He says reducing tariffs on phosphate imports from Morocco would help address high fertilizer prices. “There’s got to be some easing on that,” Feenstra said. “We’ve got to try to figure out also how to create more fertilizer opportunities in this great state. There’s a lot of things that can be done. There’s some policies out there, and relaxing some rules from the EPA would help.”

Feenstra says rising input costs have been cutting into farmer profit margins.
