February wet and warm in much of Illinois

February was warm and wet for most of Illinois.

The USDA says the average statewide temperature was more than four degrees above normal at 33.8 and precipitation was a half inch above average at 2.5 inches.

That precipitation did push some areas into the surplus soil moisture category, which could be an issue when planting gets underway.

The USDA’s weekly crop progress and condition reports resume in April.
