Farmland sale breaks MO state record

A state record sale for farmland was set last week in west-central Missouri.

Monte Fenner, an auctioneer from Marshall who sold the land near Malta Bend, tells Brownfield one farmer from Carroll County bought 115 acres for $4 million. And that’s…”$34,800 an acre.”

Fenner says it’s not only some of the best farmland in the county, but in Missouri.

“It’s deep soil, very high productive and consistent.”

He says it was a once-in-a lifetime purchase.

“Most farmers know they have one chance in a lifetime to buy what’s next to them, across the road or one mile down the road. Two farmers came prepared that day knowing this was the one time they had to buy that property.”

The Missouri Department of Agriculture says the sale set a record for the highest price per acre paid for farmland in the state.
