Farmers testify against proposed Wisconsin deer farm fencing rule

Farmers and ag groups expressed concern about a proposed new Wisconsin deer farm fencing rule.  The proposed rule is called ATCP 10 and if passed, would require deer farm operators to install a secondary fence around existing fences and it would restrict the transportation of live deer.

Wisconsin Farm Bureau Board member Adam Kuczer was one of the people that testified at a Sheboygan public hearing Tuesday saying the rule would have a detrimental impact on deer farms because of the cost of fencing and it would make it nearly impossible to move live deer.  He also says the new rule will not stop or necessarily slow down the spread of Chronic Wasting Disease in wild deer, which is why the rule was proposed.

Wisconsin Farm Bureau proposed the state pick up the cost of fencing materials, wait six to twelve months after funding to require the double fencing and allow intrastate transfer of deer in areas already affected by CWD.
