Farmers look to secure seed for 2022 “flex acres”

Farmers attending the third-largest indoor farm show in the country are curious about seed availability.

Turk Reginnitter with Merschman Seeds tells Brownfield many who visited their booth at the Iowa Ag Expo in Des Moines haven’t finalized planting decisions.

“And they’re wanting to know whether they should be planting that last 10 percent of their ground to corn or soybeans.”

He expects most of those decisions to occur after the federal crop insurance price is determined March 1st.

“But I think there’s still some seed acres out there undecided, and we’re telling (farmers) we have plenty of seed. So come and see us if you need seed.”

Merschman Seeds is an independent, family-owned seed company based in West Point, Iowa.
