Farmers Business Network expands livestock offerings

The Farmer Business Network is adding a new animal health and nutrition platform and has acquired Minnesota-based Prairie Livestock Supply businesses to better serve livestock producers.

FBN Co-Founder Charles Baron tells Brownfield more than half of their members raise livestock and the new platform will include feed and nutrition services, FBN Pharmacy to fill animal health pharmaceuticals and supplies for farmers in 41 states, and veterinarian services throughout the Upper Midwest.

“Prairie really brings a team of outstanding experts in beef cattle, dairy, swine, and poultry, both on the veterinarian side and nutrition side, and a really integrated approach,” he explains.

He says the network is also interested in expanding veterinarian partnerships across the country.

“We do have some partner vets already who can provide services in the Central and Upper Midwest— in Iowa, Minnesota, the Dakotas, Nebraska, Kansas, and Montana as well,” he says.

Baron says after analyzing member data, the network found pharmaceutical prices could vary up to 75 percent on products which is why they created FBN Pharmacy, operated out of Newton, Iowa, to provide more competitive and transparent prices for producers nationwide.

“Farmers need to sharpen their pencils, take a look at how they’re buying, and make sure they’re getting the highest ROI for every dollar they’re putting into the farm,” he says.

FBN includes a network of 24,000 farms of all sizes across the U.S., Canada, and Australia.
