Farmers becoming more interested in branding

Farmers seem to be gaining interest in branding their business.

Iowa Farm Bureau farm business development manager Amanda Van Steenwyk says there was a lot of engagement around branding during a conference the organization hosted last year.

“It was the most popular and well-received breakout session. It’s an area where farmers are wanting to get a little bit better at as we develop that market of direct-to-consumer for farmers across the board.”

She tells Brownfield farmers, especially the younger generation, see growth potential when marketing direct to consumers.

“They typically had sold x number of cattle to the regular cash market, and now they realize they can kind of set that price of what they want it to be, be price setters instead of price takers. And there’s more and more interest in doing that.”

Van Steenwyk says Iowa Farm Bureau is offering workshops this winter to help farmers identify ways to market and brand their farming operations.
