Farmer says conditions are right for crop diseases

Like many farmers in the Midwest, Greg Corcoran says he is scouting for disease pressure because of wet and increasingly hot conditions.

Corcoran grows corn, soybeans and popcorn in southern Ohio.

“We’ve seen gray leaf spot,” he says. “It’s in the corn so we are getting out and spraying it now.”

He tells Brownfield overall the crops are looking good.

“What was planted early looks fantastic and the later stuff is coming along,” he says. “We’ll need rain here in August to hep finish the beans out and help get those pods filled.”

Corcoran farms in Ross, Pike, and Scioto counties.
