Farmer plans replant on flooded acres

An east-central Missouri farmer says he lost about a third of his corn and soybean crops to recent flooding.

Mark Scott said he plans to replant lost soybean acres and plant some additional soybeans where his corn was flooded out. Scott tells Brownfield while he can receive an indemnity for his lost soybeans and replant insured soybeans after July 15th

“On the corn, I can take the indemnity and wait until the 16th of July and plant and then not ensure the soybeans,” he said. “I’ll be stand alone on that.”

But Scott said he’s concerned soybeans planted where the corn was washed out might not be able to grow because of previously applied herbicides on the corn crop.

He said his crops that weren’t washed out are some of the best he’s ever had at the end of June.

“I’m optimistic that the crops on the hills are going to make up for some of the losses I have down in the bottoms,” he said. “And with crop insurance, I feel sure that I’ll be able to do it all again next year.”

Scott said he luckily cut his wheat the day before rainfall started in his area.
