Farmer not concerned about frost damage to newly emerged corn

West-central Minnesota farmer Noah Hultgren tells Brownfield he’s not that concerned about frost damage to the corn and sugarbeets he’s planted within the past two weeks.

“Up to this point I’m not seeing any problems. We’ve got one more night that we kind of have to dodge, mostly for our sugarbeets. Corn is probably going to be okay.”

Sugarbeets emerge with two leaves, and remain vulnerable until they reach the four to six leaf stage.

“They could be susceptible to frost damage. We’re just kind of keeping our fingers crossed.”

Hultgren, who farms near Raymond, says temperatures are forecast to warm throughout the week.
