Farmer downplays day-to-day impact of COVID-19

Many farmers say the COVID-19 pandemic has not had much of an impact on day-to-day operations.

Nathan Collins of Murdock in west-central Minnesota tells Brownfield they do a few things differently.

“But we’re pretty fortunate. I had a conversation with someone this spring and I said I’ve been self-quarantining for years, we’re way ahead of the trend. We spend a lot of time in the tractors by ourselves. So it had some effect on what we do, but overall we still got the job done.”

He says they do their best to take care of themselves and others.

“Taking necessary precautions (like) wearing safety vests, it’s more important than anything else as we work around the clock in dark conditions. So we’re always making strides to get better and create a safe environment.”

Collins grows corn, soybeans, and alfalfa with his brother and serves as the District Four director for Minnesota Farm Bureau.
