Farmer describes current period as “input inflation”

A southwest Minnesota corn and soybean grower says farming is rapidly getting more expensive.

Mark Enninga of Fulda suggests a period of inflation on basically every input used on the farm is occurring.

“Whether it be machinery, fertilizer, chemicals, those things, they’re going to creep up right along with commodity prices. So it’s something that farmers need to manage very closely.”

He tells Brownfield the rally is providing opportunities for farmers to get in a better spot financially.

“I think everybody is a little bit cautious (though) about where things might go from an input price perspective, and how much certainty there is to a continued strong prices with commodities.”

Enninga strip-tills and says that allows him to be more efficient with fertilizer as well as his time.
