Farm Bureau official pleased with Senate farm bill hemp language

Rob Richard with Wisconsin Farm Bureau says if Senator Mitch McConnell’s hemp farming language in the Senate farm bill makes it to the final farm bill, it would be huge for hemp growers and processors around the country.  “When it comes to entrepreneurs, individuals setting up a business surrounding hemp with credit card transactions, with lending and financing for farmers to be able to get the money they need to buy the seed, it just opens up all of those doors and really breaks down the barriers.”

Richard tells Brownfield along with growing and processing, the McConnell language would have a definition treating CBD oils uniformly nationwide.  “As far as the legality of CBD and CBD oil, it should not be an issue anymore.”

Richard says Farm Bureau will work for the hemp provisions in the conference committee and watch for Senator Chuck Grassley’s possible harmful amendment, but, “I don’t think there’s going to be any serious issues that I can see from the House side with regard to hemp.”

The Senate passed their farm bill on an 86-11 vote, and a conference committee of House and Senate members is expected to work out a compromise farm bill in July.
