Farm Bureau helping Minnesota State Fair goers meet farmers

Minnesota State Fair

Minnesota Farm Bureau is giving attendees of the State Fair an opportunity to meet a farmer.

Farm Bureau public relations intern Maddie Schafer says fewer than 50 percent of Minnesotans have actually spoken to a farmer face to face.

“In the introduction, we tell farmers to share their story.  (the farmers) shouldn’t have to know all the facts and statistics, but just to share their own unique story.  Because in the end, somebody just wants to meet a farmer and know that they care and really want to do this; that farming isn’t just a way to make a living, it’s a way to make a life.”

Minnesota Farm Bureau has scheduled member farmers to be available at their building all 12 days of the Fair.

Schafer tells Brownfield interactions started almost as soon as the gates opened up.

“People just want to know (where) farmers live, do they farm with their family and what do they grow.  So far, those have been the most popular questions and I expect that to continue because people are at the Fair to have a good time and when they meet a farmer they want to know ‘who are you and what do you do?’  So that’s what we have to answer for them.”
