Farm Bureau Ag Safety and Awareness Week

American Farm Bureau is promoting its Ag Safety Awareness Program this week.

Minnesota Farm Bureau promotion and education chair Steve Schoenfeld says fire safety is a timely theme with conditions being dry and windy in many areas.

“Just yesterday there was a wildfire burning northeast of Waseca (where Schoenfeld is from), and it consumed about 1,000 acres of wildlife and marsh area. And a couple structures were lost in this fire also.”

The other themes this week are animal safety, eye safety, the cost of safety equipment, and tick and Lyme Disease awareness.

“If you’re going out into like the woods or any area, just (make sure) to have long jeans on and stuff. And when you’re done, check yourself in case there is a tick on you. And it does happen.”

Farm Bureau partners with the U.S. Agricultural Safety and Health Center in an effort to reduce farm work-related injuries and deaths.
