Ethanol exports start 2024 on a down note

2024 started with a month-to-month decline for U.S. ethanol exports.

The Renewable Fuels Association says January ethanol exports were 150 million gallons, 4% less than December, with Canada taking the top spot for the 34th month in a row, followed by India, which took in a three-year high. Exports to those two nations were mostly denatured, putting January 2024 at the second largest month on record for exports of denatured ethanol. South Korea, Colombia, and Mexico rounded out the top five, while Brazil remained absent because of import tariffs.

Exports of distillers dried grains with solubles declined 9% on the month to 902,376 tons, with Mexico leading the way for the sixth consecutive month.

There were no recorded ethanol imports in January.
