EPA science advisory panel differs on glyphosate

The EPA’s Scientific Advisory Panel looking into glyphosate concluded four days of hearings last week with no clear conclusion. There were mixed opinions from scientists on the panel about whether the herbicide is a cancer causing agent in humans.

Wisconsin farmer Kevin Hoyer testified on behalf of the American Soybean Association saying how no studies have concluded glyphosate has adverse health or environmental effects. He told the panel that glyphosate is important to the common goal of continually “improving the environmental sustainability of crop protection, while growing a safe and abundant food supply.”

According to AgriPulse, some of the scientists backed EPA’s findings that glyphosate does not cause cancer, while others said there was “suggestive” evidence of its cancer-causing potential.
