Eastern Nebraska farmer says planting will be underway this week

Eastern Nebraska farmer Quentin Connealy says corn planting will get underway this week ahead of a potential storm system.

“The ground is warming up.  I think we’re in the high 40s. We’re going to try some Friday ahead of the rain to make sure everything works for when we really get going, we’re good to roll.”

But, he tells Brownfield, it could be a sluggish start for Cornhusker farmers in the northern half of the state after taking a recent trip to the Panhandle. “I think some guys are waiting for a couple of days to get to planters out, but I saw progress on the way out Friday and didn’t see much movement compared to yesterday everybody is gung-ho after the nice Easter weekend.

Connealy says the cold and dry conditions are similar to last year, but additional moisture has helped them get about a week ahead of schedule.
