DuPont to sell some business units

A report from Bloomberg says DuPont plans to sell its herbicide making business to help avoid potential antitrust issues in the company’s merger with Dow.  Bloomberg cited unnamed sources familiar with DuPont’s plan to sell its herbicide business, which the sources say is expected to generate several hundred million dollars.

The sources say DuPont is also considering selling its insecticide and seeds units that could be obstacles to closing the deal.

Rather than combine the smaller units into one package, the sources say DuPont is looking at individual sales.

Dow and DuPont want to complete their planned $59 billion merger by the end of the year.
