Dry conditions permit harvest progress in Ohio

Little to no rain over the course of the last week allowed many farmers to get into Ohio fields to begin the fall harvest.

According to information provided by USDA, the hot and dry weather dried much of the corn crop. The moisture content for corn harvested last week averaged 21 percent with 14 percent for soybeans harvested.

Around 84 percent of Ohio silage corn has been harvested with 8 percent of grain corn harvested thus far this season. Six percent of Ohio soybeans are harvested so far this year, down from 2015 averages.

Ohio farmers who could planted winter wheat last week. Around five percent of Ohio winter wheat was planted over last week.

The window for the Ohio silage harvest is near the end.
