Dry conditions help advance TN crop harvest

Tennessee corn harvest is inching closer to completion and cotton harvest is picking up its pace.

USDA says it’s dry and 83% of the state’s corn is harvested as of mid-October, a decent increase from the previous week. Cotton harvest is 25% complete, slightly behind average for this time of the year with cotton conditions rated 75% good to excellent.

Soybean harvest is 46% complete in Tennessee, slightly ahead of average with conditions rated 78% good to excellent.

Tobacco cuttings are at 95% complete, a similar pace to last year. Winter wheat plantings are at 26% complete with 9% of the winter wheat emerged.

USDA says forage growth is drying up with fall pasture and hay reseeding being delayed and producers already feeding hay. Tennessee’s hay conditions are rated 63% good to excellent.
