Don’t overlook how to balance nutrients in soils before planting kicks off

The correct mixture of nutrients is critical for farmers to raise a successful crop in 2023 despite uncertainty in the ag sector.

Southern Nebraska farmer Brian Herbeck tells Brownfield he is changing his nutrient management plan. “With the higher input costs, I find that when you’re balancing it the more and more, the more efficient and the more reward you get a higher ROI.”

Gaeyln Beer with AgroLiquid many farmers make the mistake of not soil testing, which could lead to an overuse of some nutrients. “You tend to look at that soil test and know that zing, manganese, iron, copper and a lot of those nutrients they just get crowded out by excesses that live in the soil.  Balance is the key regardless of what level of rainfall you get.”

Beer says the correct combination of nutrients will maximize soil fertility and eventually yields.
