Coronavirus concerns shut down Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo
Concerns over spread of coronavirus have shut down the 2020 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.
The City of Houston and the Houston Health department ordered the early closure in the interest of public health as officials in both Houston and Harris County have declared a health emergency.
Houston mayor Sylvester Turner says the decision to cancel the rodeo was made after a man from Montgomery County, who had not traveled internationally, tested presumptive positive for COVID-19.
Some attendees, including livestock exhibitors and judging teams have been in Houston participating in show activities since it kicked off on March 3rd. The grounds will close by 4pm today. The event was scheduled to run through March 22nd.
