Corn harvest nears completion in Tennessee

Corn harvest nears completion as dry and moderately warm weather has farmers running full steam ahead.  Corn and cotton harvest are near the average pace, while soybean harvest is ahead of average.

Corn is 96% harvested. 

Soybeans are 80% harvested and cotton is 76% harvested.

Drought conditions are intensifying, and pasture conditions reflect that.  Just 1 percent of pastures are rated excellent with 15% good and 86% called fair to very poor.

Winter wheat is 63% planted and 58% emerged.  Many farmers are forgoing winter wheat planting and pasture reseeding as conditions remain very dry.

Topsoil is 39% adequate and subsoil moisture is 42% adequate.
