Commodity groups preparing for 2023 Farm Bill

National commodity groups brainstormed ideas for the 2023 Farm Bill during their annual business meetings in conjunction with Commodity Classic.

East central Illinois Farmer Roger Sy represented the Illinois Corn Marketing Board as a delegate during the National Corn Growers Association’s Corn Congress.

“Under the new administration there may be some whole new ideas and some things work well and some don’t. We just want to be a part of the whole process of putting that together.”

Illinois Soybean Association Communications Director Rachel Peabody says the farm bill was a priority in the American Soybean Association’s policy discussions as well.

“As we talk about the groundwork that is being laid for that next farm bill reauthorization, we want to talk about what the meaningful farmer tools are that we need to assist farmers in times of crop or economic loss and how the farm bill can help better prepare for that.”

Sy and Peabody say both groups also created resolutions on trade, climate, and biofuels policy.
