Central Nebraska farmer reports exceptional corn yields

A central Nebraska farmer says corn yields in his area have been exceptional this year.

Scott McPheeters, who farms near Gothenburg, says it’s some of the best corn they’ve ever grown.

“We’ve talked to some of the other guys in the area—and it’s across the scale, so it’s not like it’s imaginary—but we’ve had fields that have made 275 bushels an acres,” McPheeters says. “It’s kind of outrageous.”

He was also pleased with his soybean yields.

“They weren’t the best we’ve ever had, but they were still probably in the top two or three years,” he says. “Most of them were in the 70’s. We’ve had a few 80 bushel fields before, but we were still pretty happy with the 70’s.”

The majority of his ground is irrigated, McPheeters says.
