Central Minnesota farmer goes nearly a month between rains

A central Minnesota farmer welcomed rain over the weekend after going nearly a month without precipitation.

Dan Glessing of Waverly says prior to Sunday, the last measurable rainfall on his farm was a half inch May 27th.

“We got .6″ on Sunday (June) 20th, so yeah almost a month. And we were dry, we needed it.”

Glessing is grateful for the moisture and tells Brownfield rain is in the forecast this week.

“Last night I dug down in the soil and the top half-inch (to) inch was damp, but below that it was still grey and dry. So we need more than what we got.”

Glessing says while low-lying areas seemed to be hanging in there, corn and soybean leaves on hills were rolling before the rain came.
