Calling ahead of March 15 deadline counts

The head of USDA’s Farm Service Agency is expecting a rush in farmer sign up in the final days before crop insurance enrollment deadlines.

Administrator Zach Ducheneaux tells Brownfield about 80 percent of expected farmers have made their decisions for the Price Loss Coverage (PLC) or Agriculture Risk Coverage (ARC) programs for 2021.

“We really anticipate a rush in the next few days,” he says.  “It’s important for folks to understand—call ahead, find out what the posture of your service center is—we’re trying to provide for their safety and yours.”

He says as long as producers contact their local office by the March 15th deadline saying they want to register, they won’t miss out on coverage.

“We can touch base without after the deadline, but you have to make that contact.”

Producers who enrolled for the 2019 crop year received more than $5 billion in payments last fall.
