Brooklyn, New York schools participate in Meatless Mondays

New York City Mayer Bill de Blasio and the head of that city’s public schools say 15 Brooklyn schools will participate in Meatless Mondays next spring.  It means all participating schools will serve vegetarian breakfasts and lunches every Monday.

The city’s official website includes supportive comments about healthy diets and a stronger planet resulting from the announcement.  Those offering support for the move include Wayne Pacelle, president and CEO of the Humane Society of the United States.

Response from those in the business of raising food animals is that meat should be offered every day of the week.  In the past, reaction from beef industry leaders to Meatless Mondays is that beef has its own amazing story to tell when it comes to health.  National Cattlemen’s Beef Association leaders add that cattlemen are significantly more environmentally sustainable then they were 30 years ago.

  • Since animal rights extremist own deblasio I’m not surprised.
Sad and disappointing for kids whose only healthy protein rich meal of the day might be in school. But malnourished individuals are easier to control and influence.

  • this is highly offensive to those who eat meat. they are not being given a choice but are being forced into participating in a vegan agenda. to make this far, maybe have a total meat Thursday and watch those who don’t chose to eat meat have a hissy fit.
