Broiler sets, placements up on year

The USDA’s weekly broiler hatchery numbers are pointing to slightly higher supplies in the coming weeks.

Sets of broiler type eggs into incubators were 240.437 million eggs, a little bit above last week and up 1% from last year, with the average hatchability rate holding just below 80%.

Placements of broiler type chicks into meat production were 185.992 million head, less than a million under the previous week, but 1% above a year ago.

These numbers are a part of the data used to calculate the USDA’s annual broiler production projections, with the next update out February 8th.

Comparisons for Brownfield states:

Arkansas: Sets: 24.308 million eggs, compared to 23.889 million a year ago; Placements: 22.073 million head, compared to 21.65 million last year

Kentucky: Sets: 6.768 million eggs, compared to 6.9 million a year ago; Placements: 5.346 million head, compared to 5.099 million last year

Missouri: Sets: 8.584 million eggs, compared to 8.69 million a year ago; Placements: 5.706 million head, compared to 5.286 million last year

California/Tennessee/West Virginia: Sets: 13.541 million eggs, compared to 13.841 million a year ago; Placements: 11.633 million head, compared to 11.882 million last year
