Broiler sets, placements under last year’s levels
The USDA says 230.773 million broiler type eggs were moved into incubators last week, slightly more than the previous week, but down 2% from last year, further indicating tighter supplies of broilers and lower production in the coming weeks. Hatchability was fractionally lower, while still holding above 80%.
Placements of broiler type chicks into meat production was reported at 177.737 million head, below the prior week and a year ago, reflecting lower sets earlier this fall.
The USDA’s next annual broiler production estimate is out November 9th.
