Broiler sets, placements under last year’s levels

The USDA says 230.773 million broiler type eggs were moved into incubators last week, slightly more than the previous week, but down 2% from last year, further indicating tighter supplies of broilers and lower production in the coming weeks. Hatchability was fractionally lower, while still holding above 80%.

Placements of broiler type chicks into meat production was reported at 177.737 million head, below the prior week and a year ago, reflecting lower sets earlier this fall.

The USDA’s next annual broiler production estimate is out November 9th.

Comparisons for Brownfield states:

Arkansas: Sets: 23.47 million eggs, compared to 22.789 million a week ago; Placements: 18.852 million head, compared to 20.067 million last week

Kentucky: Sets: 6.291 million eggs, compared to 6.696 million a week ago; Placements: 26.455 million head, compared to 26.726 million last week

Missouri: Sets: 8.328 million eggs, compared to 8.081 million a week ago; Placements: 12.153 million head, compared to 13.152 million last week

California/Tennessee/West Virginia: Sets: 13.349 million eggs, compared to 13.317 million a week ago; Placements: 12.107 million head, compared to 10.433 million last week
