Broiler sets down on week, up on year
Broiler sets and placements were mixed last week.
The USDA says 242.684 million eggs went into incubation, slightly fewer than the previous week, but 1% above a year ago, with the average hatchability rate of 79.3%. Those birds will head to meat production late this month and early next month.
Placements of 188.161 million chicks into meat production were an increase of more than a million on the week and 1% on the year, heading to market this summer.
The USDA’s updated annual poultry production numbers are out April 11th.
