Bringing to message of dairy to the Indy 500

Six of the seven rookies that will be racing this weekend in the Indy 500.It’s the 40th year for the American Dairy Association of Indiana’s Fastest Rookie Luncheon.  Deb Osza, general manager for ADAI says the Fastest Rookie luncheon is a great way to get the dairy industry excited about the Indianapolis 500.  “Our two dairy farmers, Ken Hoeing from Rushville and Alan Wright of Muncie, will be there in victory circle to provide the winner with an ice-cold bottle of milk,” she says.

A tradition that began in 1933 when Louis Meyer asked for a bottle of buttermilk after winning his second Indy 500 race.

Osza tells Brownfield the tradition of the bottle of milk is a great opportunity to bring two very different industries together.  “We are so thrilled to be the ones that nurture the drink of milk tradition,” she says.  “It is a way to get a message about agriculture, farming, dairy, and dairy nutrition to an audience that wouldn’t normally hear about this.”

The 2014 Fastest Rookie of the Year, Kurt Busch, qualified at 230.782 miles per hour.   Busch was unable to attend the luncheon due to double booking so we were unable to get his thoughts on this weekend’s race.

However – we did have a chance to speak with a few of the other Rookies.
