Bayer launches European carbon initiative

Bayer has launched its ‘Carbon Initiative‘ for agriculture in Europe.

The company says the goals are to decarbonize the food value chain focusing on farming activities in line with the European Commission’s Green Deal objectives.

Bayer says farmers’ carbon reduction practices– from cover crops to tillage reduction – will be rewarded through a new digital Monitoring, Reporting and Verification system that it’s developing over the next three years.

The program also involves food processors and retailers in Europe.

More than two dozen farmers with more than 12-hundred acres in seven countries (France, Spain, Belgium, Denmark, Germany and Ukraine and the U.K.) are participating.

Bayer launched its Global Carbon initiative in the U.S. and Brazil last July.
