Automakers embrace E15

A survey of automakers shows near unanimous support for E15.

Geoff Cooper with the Renewable Fuels Association says they work with automakers on an annual basis analyzing owner’s manuals and warranty statements to determine what is being said about E15.

“And this year’s review of all that information came back and showed us that more than nine out of ten new vehicles today are explicitly and clearly approved by the automaker to use 15 percent ethanol blends.”

He tells Brownfield it’s important to communicate that message as misinformation continues to spread.

“We see it all the time where people say ‘Oh E15 is an illegal fuel (and) isn’t an approved fuel for your vehicle and you could void your warranty if you use E15.’ Well that’s not true, I mean most cars on the road today are legally approved by EPA to use E15.”

Cooper says RFA is happy to see automakers embrace the lower-cost and lower-carbon fuel.
