ARC and PLC signups, elections open for 2021

USDA has opened the Agriculture Risk Coverage and Price Loss Coverage programs for 2021 enrollment and elections.  USDA says the ARC and PLC safety net programs help producers weather revenue or price fluctuations for certain crops. 

USDA says producers can elect coverage and enroll in crop-by-crop ARC County or PLC, or ARC-Individual for the entire farm for 2021.  Election changes for next year are optional, and USDA says if a producer makes changes to a multi-year contract, a new contract will need to be signed.  Producers will also have an opportunity to make new elections for the 2022 and 2023 crop years.

The deadline for 2021 ARC and PLC enrollment and elections is March 15^th, and elections default to 2020 selections if no changes are made by then.

Farm Service Agency Administrator Richard Fordyce says commodity prices have shown a glimmer of improvement, recently depressed prices and drops in revenue compounded by effects of the pandemic have impacted the farmer’s bottom line, and these programs help mitigate financial stressors.

Covered commodities include barley, canola, large and small chickpeas, corn, crambe, flaxseed, grain sorghum, lentils, mustard seed, oats, peanuts, dry peas, rapeseed, long grain rice, medium and short-grain rice, safflower seed, seed cotton, sesame, soybeans, sunflower seed, and wheat.
