Another winter blast keeps Minnesota farmer on sideline

It could be May before a farmer in southwest Minnesota is able to begin fieldwork.

Mark Enninga of Fulda says his area received a large amount of snow over the winter and conditions remain cool and wet.

“We’ve still got quite a bit of snow melting out of the shelter belts and the groves, so there may have been some spots in the fields that were fit to go, but not the full field. So I think a lot of people are waiting.”

He tells Brownfield a couple days of 80-degree weather last week were followed by another round of snowstorms this past weekend.

“And we’ll need to wait for those conditions to clear up, and I expect later next week that we might have another window of opportunity to get going. So at this point we’re just in the prep stages, making sure all the equipment is ready when the weather does clear.”

Enninga says the moisture is somewhat welcome because of how dry it has been in southwest Minnesota.
