An update on ag trade in 2023

The USDA will release its Quarterly Ag Trade Outlook on Thursday.

University of Missouri ag economist Scott Brown says exports are critical to the US ag sector and he’s watching what USDA does with its export projections in Thursday’s report.  “The most important thing here is where are we seeing the growth in trade coming over the next year here, is a piece of that puzzle,” he says.

He tells Brownfield growth in demand outside of the U.S. is what is needed to push markets higher.  “I want to see whether the USDA has a forecast of additional growth in trade going forward,” he says.  “Or are we going to continue to slow down?  China’s going to be a big part of that discussion.”
